Singer-songwriter Jeff Crosby is premiering his new song “Laramie” exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen to the song, which Crosby calls “almost too personal.”
Like all great Americana songs, “Laramie” finds its origins in a relationship gone bad. As its title might indicate, it takes both sonic and lyrical inspiration from the sparse vibes of Wyoming’s capital city. “I stayed in Laramie with an ex-girlfriend, and we got a cheap hotel, went out on the town, hit a bunch of dive bars in the freezing cold,” Crosby tells The Boot. “When we split up, I found myself wishing we could go back there. I guess the idea is that, when you really love someone, it doesn’t really matter where you are, as long as you’re together.”
