The Wans, from Nashville Tennessee, are a three piece rock and roll band formed only a few years ago. I have been following them for over a year now after stumbling across them through social media. In such a short space of time The Wans have already supported bands such asPearl Jam, Beck and The Black Lips. As vocalist/guitarist Simon Kerr comes from my home country Northern Ireland, Derry to be exact, I have been eager to hear this album for a very long time and I‘m happy to say it does not fail to impress.

Their debut album “He Said She Said” grabs you by the balls right from the off! Opening track “Never Win” starts off lively. With a pounding driving rhythm, frantic riffs and melodies, explicit lyrics and with Simon Kerr’s smooth higher register vocals it certainly sounds fresh, vibrant and this continues straight through the whole album. It never lets up. “You’re Wasting” has a deep heavy sound. The drums are huge fromMark Petaccia and works tightly with Thomas Bragg to provide a commanding, pounding, driving rhythm with chunky riffs from Kerr. This is awesome. READ MORE…

Just a week and a half ago, we had the distinct pleasure of hosting indie rock/soul musicians Willie and the Giant at our weekly showcase over at Acme Feed and Seed, but it turns out that’s not the only thing this talented bunch of musicians have been up to recently. In fact, the group just entered the release cycle for the upcoming self-titled debut effort, and on Tuesday, September 9th, dropped two new singles: “Ain’t Gonna Wait” and “Poor Boy”. The tracks are, for lack of a better word, phenomenal, and really pay testament to the musicality the four players possess. The tracks are very engaging and rich, and harken back to the era of tape and live cuts, which makes sense seeing as they were cut in Nashville’s own Welcome to 1979. 2014 has been a good year for Nashville rock and roll group The Wans. Their new album “He Said, She Said” was released today. Produced by Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Jason Isbell) and mixed by Vance Powell (Jack White, Arctic Monkeys), the albums channels both the classic rock of Led Zeppelin and the grunge of ’90s bands like Soundgarden, but with a modern twist. We’ve been jabbering about The Wans and their upcoming release, He Said, She Said, for a good part of the summer.  We brought you the first single, “I Can’t Fix You” back in June, and named them a must see in our Forecastle lineup.  Well, the wait is up, and the album is out.  We are going to offer you a stream below, but that should really just incite you to visit your local record store to buy a physical copy.

No local dates on the books as of right now, but we expect that to change in the coming weeks.  Keep your eyes on No Country for updates on that front, and keep your ears on The Wans for an impressive debut full length, and another solid band who are setting the pace in Nashville’s exploding rock scene.
