PopDust adds Fort Gorgeous to their Release Radar

This Brooklyn-based indie artist has collaborated with some of pop music’s biggest names, but now is venturing into his own area of work with lots of introspective looks inside his own head with this release, and some wild chord progressions to accompany. It’s a shiny and strong first effort for the musician, and will only build on his past projects with the debut of the album today. READ MORE…

Bandsintown premieres “Bigot in my Bedroom” by Beechwood

One quick scroll through social media this week (cc: every week), and it’s clear—politics are absolutely unavoidable. NYC-based trio, Beechwood, who generally tackle rock’n’roll-friendly topics, added their two cents today with the release of their latest track, “Bigot in My Bedroom”.

“Look what you’ve done to this nation, you got us tangled up in all of your lies,” sings bassist and songwriter, Sid Simons, as Isa Tineo (drums/vox) and Gordon Lawrence (guitar/vox) chime in with spirited coos and handclaps. While semi-heavy in its messaging, the song itself is an upbeat masterpiece—one that deserves to be belted out with friends at a drive bar (friends who’re also navigating the political landscape that is 2018).

Of the song, Simons and Lawrence told us, “Though we don’t consider ourselves to be a political band, it’s impossible these days to avoid the constant stream of the 24-hour bullshit media news cycle. This comes in many forms, and it is therefore a part of our everyday life—advertisements of crooked, smiling politicians, waving their arms in the air and coming at you from every direction.” He continued, saying, “Bigots in the bedroom, Nazis in the kitchen…’well what can a poor boy do’?”

The guys will be performing their new material on their upcoming European tour, which kicks off on May 25 in Paris.

Beechwood fans will also be ecstatic to know their new album, Inside the Flesh Hotel, is due out June 8. READ MORE…

The Deli Magazine announces the release of Fort Gorgeous’ “The Bottom Of The Sea” EP

illy Libby has run the gamut when it comes to supporting his fellow indie acts, performing with bands like My Morning Jacket, Tokyo Police Club, Ingrid Michaelson, and Surfer Blood. Now it’s his time to shine: On May 4th, Libby will release his first record under the name Fort Gorgeous. The EP, called “The Bottom of the Sea”, features lush indie pop, with hooky tracks like “Watch The Paint Dry” and “Wishing Well” highlighting Libby’s soaring voice. No Depression Premieres New Track by The Mallett Brothers Band

TMBB

Penned by Will Mallett, the infectious “Losin’ Horses” is a twangy shuffler, set apart by pedal steel, mandolin and a touch of reverb, whose warm melody juxtaposes the story of a down on his luck gambler dealing with his wagers and losses.

Paper Magazine premieres DEGA’s new sunny video for “Ocean Love”

Husband and wife duo Aslyn and Kalen Nash make dreamy, jubilant synth pop as DEGA. Before collaborating together, the two had established music careers. Aslyn had released two records, Lemon Love and The Dandelion Sessions, and toured as a keyboardist and backup singer with Kesha. Kalen, whose band Ponderosa was signed to New West Records, had released two albums, Moonlight Revival and Pool Party, as well as a solo album called Ukred. In fact, it was the business of their career schedules that prompted them to collaborate so that they could see each other more often.

Their decision clearly paid off. The new Tropico Photo-directed video for their song “Ocean Love” is crisp, clean, and colorful, like if an IKEA catalogue was brought to life by Glossier’s creative team. Dominated by primary colors, the video creates a world of popped bubble gum, geometric dance moves, blue tights, and turtlenecks cut down the back. Back by the song’s gurgling, glittery synths and shimmying drums, the video feels sunny and uplifting.

Aslyn says of the video, “I am a classically trained pianist and I tend to move in a structured way. With DEGA, we would start something and it would move and change and find its own way. That is a lot of who Kalen is, both musically and personally. He’s an open and spontaneous person — that’s how he maneuvers through life.”

Kalen adds, “I love pop music and working with Aslyn has helped me embrace that. And knowing that she’s going to show up and kill it every time, in the studio and live, is one of the most pleasurable things to happen in my career.” READ MORE…

Atwood Magazine premieres “Wishing Well” by Fort Gorgeous

Mysteries are a huge part of life, especially in regards to understanding the meaning of existence and our own significant impact on the world. These questions can become haunting and lingering, making us feel somewhat grim and wry – but upon the realization that there may not be a clear answer, we might find bliss. Fort Gorgeous’ soul-searching new single “Wishing Well” dwells in questions of purpose and identity, indulging and ultimately embracing the mysteries of life.

In other nights I had felt
That I was waiting on time
Time will help
At the bottom of the sea there’s nothing else
There’s nothing else
It’s just a deep wishing well
And I was waiting on luck
Cause time won’t help
If it was all etched in stone there’s nothing else
There’s nothing else

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Wishing Well,” the latest single off Fort Gorgeous’ forthcoming debut EP, The Bottom of the Sea, independently out May 4, 2018. The artist moniker for Brooklyn-based Billy Libby (who’s also a touring guitarist in Ingrid Michaelson’s band), Fort Gorgeous is a long time in the making – a cathartic unity of musical energy and emotional tension – or perhaps, musical tension and emotional energy.

“Wishing Well” evokes a new wave influence, with a heavy and captivating indie pop sound. Libby’s soft vocals and quiet uncertainty offer listeners a deeper insight to his personal journey – a never-ending quest in constant need of more. Fort Gorgeous opens with a somber guitar, questioning the meaning of life and wondering what will come of his own. “Lyrically, [the song] was inspired by the idea of asking so many questions that you eventually end up drowning in them. Basically, the big questions being, ‘what is my life and what is the point?‘ It’s about looking for answers in different places,” Fort Gorgeous tells Atwood Magazine. In the first verse, he reflects on his search for answers: “In other nights I had felt that I was waiting on time, time will help.” READ MORE…
