The result is the Sun Canyon Band and the album ‘You Never Can Tell‘, a blend of breezy Americana, Western swing and California folk-pop. The album is split between originals (written by Hubka and Rick Mayock) and covers of classics by artists like Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Chuck Berry and Guy Clark, and it features the playing of legendary English guitarist and mandolinist Albert Lee.

Lauren Scott-Phillips – “Handsome Woman”
Love songs typically fall into an overly sentimental trap, sticky with little actual substance. Fortunately, Lauren Scott-Phillips‘ “Handsome Woman” is a threadbare dedication to her wife, pulling the listener close and allowing for a glimpse into their undying love. “Everyday and night, I’ll be your handsome woman” is a stunning refrain, woven over acoustic guitar.
Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the new music video from folk rock/Americana band Under The Rug. The great-sounding new single is called “Lonesome & Mad” and features a guest contribution from Ariel Posen. For those new to the band, they are comprised of guitarist Sean Campbell, vocalist/guitarist Casey Dayan, and drummer Brendan McQueeney.
“Involuntary Adventures” is a document of heartache, chaos, and Su’s attempts to find meaning in the noise. She opens the track with a tribute to another artist who captures beauty in pain (“I’ve been listening to Jeff Buckley / He captures beautifully / The heartache I’ve been feeling), and then goes on to reflect on the dangers and allure of love (“Love is dangerous / It entangles us / In these irresistible involuntary adventures”). Meanwhile, Su’s breathy vocals mesh into an instrumental that is equal parts nervy and propulsive, marrying a jazz-tinged bassline with electronic trip hop beats.
