Rev. Greg Spradlin And The Band Of Imperials’ New Single, “I Drew Six,” Added To Ditty TV’s Weekly Ditty Dozen Spotify Playlist

“I Drew Six” is the latest single from Rev. Greg Spradlin and the Band of Imperials’ new album Hi-Watter. The Band of Imperials is Spradlin’s new project with Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo and Elvis Costello drummer Pete Thomas. “I Drew Six”—featuring Hidalgo on rhythm guitar & bass—is a blistering, frenetic gospel-rock rave up with its roots in Hurricane Katrina.

An incredible guitar player, songwriter, singer and bandleader, Rev. Greg Spradlin has been flying under the radar for years—despite recording and performing with everyone from Lucinda Williams to Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker. Along the way, Spradlin managed to assemble a supergroup with Hidalgo, Thomas, and now-deceased gospel-organ legend Rudy Copeland (Solomon Burke, Johnny Guitar Watson), and Rev. Greg Spradlin and the Band of Imperials was born. Back in 2010, they made an amazing Hurricane Katrina-inspired record called Hi-Watter, mixed by Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Los Lobos, The Black Keys). But then, as if an act of God, an unexpected series of tragedies and major life events derailed the Reverend’s musical plans. Now—pandemic, and other acts of god be damned—this album will finally see the light of day.

Ditty TV has the WORLD PREMIERE of Sylvia Rose Novak’s new video for “Bad Luck”

Alabama artist Sylvia Rose Novak just released her album Bad Luck on May 8. After years of hoofing through and establishing herself in the Southern folk-country scene, she has finally embraced her hard-edged Southern roots and the gothicism of her home region by creating her first fully-fledged rock record. What her newfound dedication to her art has amounted to is a swaggering shakedown of her songwriting abilities, trading in her cowboy boots for punk-rock leather.

Sweden’s Sofia Talvik released her latest album, Paws of a Bear, back in September, participated in our Americana Around the World segment this week, and has coordinated with DittyTV for the world premiere of her new video of “Siren Song.”

As for the album, Talvik has created a mellow, indie-folk, 10-song masterpiece that’s wistful and melancholy. With acoustic instrumentation and a haunting pedal steel, the music elicits warmth and emotion, providing a wonderful backdrop for Talvik’s sweet and stunning vocals.

Ditty TV Premieres Sara Rachele’s New Video for Burt Bacharach Cover, “Anyone Who Had a Heart”

DittyTV is pleased to present a world premiere video from indie folk/alt country artist Sara Rachele, whose new album, Scorpio Moon, was released earlier this month on Angrygal Records.

Scorpio Moon is Rachele’s most sophisticated collection of songs to date, submerged in ’60s pop, country, folk, Americana and jazz. Rachele covers what she describes as “the most challenging take [she’s] ever recorded in the studio,” with her new rendition of “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” originally written by Burt Bacharach and gifted to Dionne Warwick in 1963. Rachele adds, “This is one of my favorite Bacharach songs, and the idea of being caught in love, trapped and simultaneously free is—well, confounding. We are who we are, wherever we go, sometimes trapped within our own hearts. You can be lonely anywhere, and you can also be free.”
