“Honeysuckles” is a dark folk masterpiece in balance from Austin-based Margaret Chavez (Marcus Striplin). The track opens with hypnotic guitar arpeggiations that draw you in like waving wildflowers drawing honeybees. Then come the lyrics, which paint vignettes of tragedy that seem initially at odds with the cheerful guitar melody. As the song progresses, the track unfolds into a retrospective of loss and love.

Jennah Bell performs “Nobody Knows When You’re Down and Out” for The Wild Honey Pie
Ever since she started putting music out in 2011, singer-songwriter Jennah Bell’s unique sound has been impossible to pin down. Her signature style has been described as showing influences from soul, r&b, folk, hip-hop and bluegrass, to name a few, and she leans right into the uncertainty. Rather than succumb to the pressure of falling under the appropriate label, her music is most comfortable exploring the gray areas and settling happily where there was originally no room. READ MORE…
The Wild Honey Pie features Rainstorm Brother on ‘Buzzing Daily’
John Isaac Watters, the vocalist of Rainstorm Brother, used to work as an architect. When listening to the careful arrangement of “Fire You Light,” the second track on the folk-rock duo’s new EP, Part One, it’s easy to understand why. His vocals are a little bitThe National, a little bit Modest Mouse and a lot of vibrato, acting as the foundation around which all the other instrumental sounds are built. READ MORE…

The Wild Honey Pie debuts DONCAT’s new single “Everybody Wants to Shake Your Hand”
Worth in the public eye versus self worth; this is the grout between the bricks in Doncat’s forthcoming album Preservation of the Spirit. Doncat, known to some as Duncan Neilson of San Francisco, takes us on a journey to examine the pursuit of fame as a pursuit of personal growth. Jiving off of a long line of Californian folk ringers and counterculture singers, Doncat’smusic incorporates both folk and rock textures in his pursuit to unpack the American Dream.
“Everybody Wants to Shake Your Hand,” is atmospheric and guitar-heavy. Sweet, textural organ pads and subdued earthy sounds mingle with Doncat’s cynical lyric. “No more waiting in a line to help yourself but there is none left; it is all a joke in the end,” he delivers. This sharp criticism can be found within the rest of the melodies on Preservation of the Spirit, out May 18. READ MORE…

Tiger March’s new single “Nobody” premieres at The Wild Honey Pie’s “Buzzing Daily”
Los Angeles power couple Annie and Matthew Gleason make music together under the name Tiger March, and have just released their newest single “Nobody.” Like a harmonious duet between Beach House and Passion Pit, the spritely single fills your imagination with airy guitar strumming and fairylike synths straight out of your sweetest dreams. Under the surface, however, it tells a story of standing up to someone that hurt you and letting them know they’re no longer welcome. Annie brightly croons, “You’re nobody and you’re not my friend,” over and over, like she believes in herself for the first time. Their LP, Hold Something, drops March 23 and here’s hoping it’s full of deliciously tunes like “Nobody.” READ MORE…
