Just a week and a half ago, we had the distinct pleasure of hosting indie rock/soul musicians Willie and the Giant at our weekly showcase over at Acme Feed and Seed, but it turns out that’s not the only thing this talented bunch of musicians have been up to recently. In fact, the group just entered the release cycle for the upcoming self-titled debut effort, and on Tuesday, September 9th, dropped two new singles: “Ain’t Gonna Wait” and “Poor Boy”. The tracks are, for lack of a better word, phenomenal, and really pay testament to the musicality the four players possess. The tracks are very engaging and rich, and harken back to the era of tape and live cuts, which makes sense seeing as they were cut in Nashville’s own Welcome to 1979. We’ve got the tracks available after the jump for you to formulate your opinions of, but really: it’s quality rock and roll, done the way it should be done. What isn’t there to like? LISTEN HERE…

The Wans talk to Cameo about about awkward situations and musical inspirations
2014 has been a good year for Nashville rock and roll group The Wans. Their new album “He Said, She Said” was released today. Produced by Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Jason Isbell) and mixed by Vance Powell (Jack White, Arctic Monkeys), the albums channels both the classic rock of Led Zeppelin and the grunge of ’90s bands like Soundgarden, but with a modern twist. Constantly in motion, The Wans have a fall tour in the works, with a special stop at Austin City Limits. Learn and listen more at thewansmusic.com.
To get more familiar, we chatted with Simon from The Wans about awkward situations and musical inspirations. Check out the Q&A HERE…

No Country For New Nashville says that The Wans “are setting the pace in Nashville’s exploding rock scene.”
We’ve been jabbering about The Wans and their upcoming release, He Said, She Said, for a good part of the summer. We brought you the first single, “I Can’t Fix You” back in June, and named them a must see in our Forecastle lineup. Well, the wait is up, and the album is out. We are going to offer you a stream below, but that should really just incite you to visit your local record store to buy a physical copy.
No local dates on the books as of right now, but we expect that to change in the coming weeks. Keep your eyes on No Country for updates on that front, and keep your ears on The Wans for an impressive debut full length, and another solid band who are setting the pace in Nashville’s exploding rock scene. In his weekly Paste Magazine column, Daytrotter’s Sean Moeller spotlights Sara Rachele as one of the “gems” he’s discovered this week…
Below you’ll find a synopsis of what we consider to be the best performances that we posted on Daytrotter last week. The best things we made were some cool Daytrotter pint glasses, but here’s to the music.
Here are some other gems discovered this week: American Wrestlers (holy smokes!), Young Rising Sons, Ryn Weaver, The Soundmen, Low Roar, Sara Rachele, Nicholas Krgovich (thanks to Owen Ashworth of Advance Base/Casiotone and Orindal Records), Noah and the Megafauna, Crybabycry, The Hunts, Land Lines and Modern Vices. Now go and have yourself a week! READ MORE HERE…
Nashville Scene premieres The Wans’ “Turn Your Back” off of their debut LP He Said, She Said
With a sound steeped gritty, grunge-y, bluesy American rock ’n’ roll and savage, post-punk-infused attack, and a frontman, Simon Kerr, who comes to Nashville via Derry, Northern Ireland, The Wans tightly package four decades of distortion-buzzing sonic nastiness into a crisp 10-song stranglehold on their full-length debut, He Said, She Said. On standouts like “Tired” and “Can’t Fix You,” the drums pound and propel, the gang vocals and percussion are bombastic, and the guitars chop through the speakers like an ax-wielding Jack Nicholson.
The Wans celebrated the record’s release last night at The Basement, appearing as part of the club’s most excellent $2-beer-special-boasting Sunday Post series alongside the likes of Slick, Poly, Earl Burrows, The Heathens and Werewulf. He Said, She Said officially drops tomorrow, but the band has offered us an exclusive stream of the album cut “Turn Your Back.” LISTEN HERE…
