Paste Magazine Features Grand Canyon and Single “Kansas City”
Even if you don’t click the play button on this track from L.A. roots-rock sextet Grand Canyon, the least you could do is doff your hat for the sheer chutzpah they’re exhibiting by naming this band after something as iconic as the frickin’ Grand Canyon. You gotta really bring the goods is you’re gonna try something that ballsy.
Well, we wouldn’t be talking about this band if they didn’t have something special, would we? Though their latest album Le Grand Cañon has been out since last year, it has been plugging all the gaps in our musical vision board since then.
Paste Magazine Reviews Church Girls new EP, 𝐶𝑦𝑐𝑙𝑒𝑠
The re-emergence of girl-driven garage rock is one of the best trends of the last few years. It isn’t easy to balance the discordant and the beautiful. Post-punk requires a bare soul and poetry wrapped in barbed wire. With Cycles’ fuzzy guitars and hard-driving drum beats, Church Girls manage to keep the garage rock sound alive without irony.
Jennah Bell is Featured in Paste Magazine’s Daily Dose Column, Premieres New Track, “Common Cold”
On her new song “Common Cold,” Los Angeles-based folk artist Jennah Bell takes the phrase “lovesick” to a whole new level. For the narrator, that feeling isn’t just a yearning, but an actual illness that’s rarely diagnosed—and not easily cured. “Uncommonly cold,” Bell sings. “Your memory froze to the cigarette smoke married to my coat.” Just like a nasty virus, she’s having a hard time shaking off this heartbreak flu.
The chilly track, which Bell dedicates to time spent in considerable cold (both emotional and literal), is from the singer/songwriter’s forthcoming debut studio LP Anchors & Elephants, out Feb. 22, and it’s premiering today (Feb. 5) exclusively at Paste. You can check it out below. READ MORE
